From level 5 onwards, cities will start to request passengers, which are also required for a city level-up. The amount of required passengers continues to rise in line with the city’s level. Another four additional goods will also be required for the level-up. Passengers are of course exempt from city consumption.

Passengers can only be transported by specific passenger trains. You can research a new passenger train in each era. An additional bonus passenger train can be won in the lottery. Passenger trains will always be delivered with suitable waggons. The trains’ capacity can be increased by upgrades. Passenger trains generally are slightly faster than cargo trains.

Passengers can only be transported between cities. So you need to be connected to at least two cities. A schedule can include a maximum of ten stops. It’s possible to bring passengers to a city and pick up new passengers right away.

Those players who have transported the most passengers to a city by the end of the day, will receive prestige. If the amount of requested passengers is reached, additional prestige for the players who transported the most passengers will be awarded. Then, until the next city level-up, no further prestige for passenger transports will be given out.
The revenue of passenger transports will be calculated individually for each route. There are 2,450 different revenues in total, all changing once per hour. The revenue amount here depends on both the distance between two cities and the route’s occupancy rate. The city levels also play a role in the calculation of the occupancy rate. Generally, it is worth using your trains on routes that are not on the radar of other players.

There may be waiting timesat train stations. If many passengers are picked up from a station, the waiting time will increase. The higher a city’s level, the more passengers can be picked up simultaneously.

There are competitions during which passengers have to be transported to the cities. As the name suggests, in the bonus engine competition you can win the bonus passenger engine. Passengers now also have to be transported in city competitions. Good planning has never been so important.

A new title will be given to the player who transported the most passengers on a day. Two new medals with multiple increments also await you.

You should particularly upgrade the station concourse (limits the amount of passenger trains), if you want to specialise in passenger transport.

In the endgame you once again have to bring many passengers to the megacities in order to secure victory. They are not affected by the exchange of the dozen goods, so they can be transported throughout the whole endgame. They are the perfect ‘offline good’.

Museum

As it may happen that passenger transports can become less important at different stages of the game (e.g. once the required amount for a particular city level had been reached), we have decided to include another, long-awaited feature: the museum!

In the museum you can park the engines you currently have no use for, which may later be important again, however. This can prove to be an advantage for passenger engines, but also in the case of very different cargo engines. For example you can use fast engines to take part in a competition in a distant city and then switch back to engines with a great tractive force, if you experience long waiting times for city goods.

The museum’s capacity depends on upgrading the engine house. At engine house level 10 for example, you can own a total of 24 engines, of which only 10 can be used. So you can have 10 engines in active service, while another 14 are parked in the museum. You can swap them at any time.

You can decide where on the map the engines from the museum will appear. They will remain in the selected city for ten minutes, before setting off. You can assign a schedule right away. The ten-minute lock prevents players from ‘beaming’ their engines to avoid empty runs.

In total there are six eras. Every era will bring it's own engines which you can research, upgrade and buy for your company.

1. Talos
The MAT 54 marks the start of the first era of electric engines. The commuter train from the Netherlands offered great comfort for its passengers, while the conductors initially had to make do with a fold-up chair. The train’s insulation was also changed over the years: when the train entered service in 1956 the waggons were still insulated with asbestos. The characteristic design quickly led to the nickname Hondekop (dog head). Only in 1993 was the asbestos removed from the last train and replaced with glass padding. During its forty years of service, the trains witnessed quite some events: in 1977 for example a MAT 54 was hijacked and the passengers kept hostage for 20 days.

Properties:
Passengers: 180
Reliability: 70%
Acceleration: High (15/20)
Max. speed: 110 km/h

Upgrades:
The Talos engine has 6 different upgrades which you can install. The passenger size can be increased with a Spring tube and adds +10 more. The Transformer cooling adds +10 more passengers. Adding a Rubber ring propulsion increases the acceleration with +2 and Flange oilers add another +1. The Flexicoil increases the speed of this engine with +20 km/h and adding the Imbalance wheel adds another +10 km/h. Installing the Air suspension upgrade will increase the reliability for this engine with +10% adding the Retractable current collector will increase it with another +5%.

In total there are six eras. Every era will bring it's own engines which you can research, upgrade and buy for your company.

1. Hermes
In the second diesel era, we make a little excursion into the world of space travel the UAC TurboTrain was developed and built by the United Aircraft Corporation. The company, which also produced the space suits for the moon landing, made some changes to its engine. They were made in an aluminium lightweight construction. The engines were powered by gas turbines and could reach speeds of up to 274.9 km/h. The TurboTrain still holds the record for the fastest rail vehicle in Canada at 226.2 km/h.

Properties:
Passengers: 95
Reliability: 50%
Acceleration: Low (5/20)
Max. speed: 235 km/h

Upgrades:
The Hermes has a total of 6 upgrades available. Installing the Hydraulics mounting will increase the passenger size with +10 and adding the Pressure intensifier adds yet another +10 passengers. The Load shock abosrber increase the acceleration with +2 and adding the Inverter increases it with another +1. The Shaw bumper adds +25 km/h to the speed and the Pneumatic signal bell adds +15 km/h speed to this engine. The Improved insulation increases the reliability with +10% and the Control shaft adds another +10% increase.

In total there are six eras. Every era will bring it's own engines which you can research, upgrade and buy for your company.

1. Ajax
The TEE is available to you in the first diesel era. The diesel engine of the Series VT 11.5 and 601 respectively was designed for international transport. The new development meant a big leap in terms of engineering and travel comfort. The trains served on routes across all of Europe and accompanied the introduction of the InterCity trains.

Properties:
Passengers: 75
Reliability: 60%
Acceleration: High (10/20)
Max. speed: 120 km/h

Upgrades:
The Ajax engine has a total of 6 upgrades available to be implemented. A Gas trut will provide +5 extra passengers and the Electro pneumatics will add another +10 passengers to this engine. Installing a Cardan shaft will increase the acceleration with +2 and a Railway air break adds another +2 in acceleration. The Jackshaft will increase the speed with +10 km/h and adding the Gear rack will add another +10 km/h in speed. The Piston coolling will increase the reliability of the engine with +10% and adding the Roller bearing adds another +10%.
